Johnston Correctional is a minimum custody institution with approximately 640 male offenders.
This position is responsible for directing and administering all programs, which have a broad scope and complexity, for the rehabilitation of offenders in the Prison system.
These program areas include Inmate Classification, Correctional Programs (incentive wage, educational and vocational programs, volunteer programs, religion and recreation) as well as supportive counseling.
This position will provide supervision for subordinate personnel who are responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of these programs on a daily basis and coordinating these programs with the custody staff.
The position reports directly to the Correctional Assistant Superintendent for Programs and assumes his/her duties when that individual is away from the facility.
The work may require this position to serve in a custody role during emergency situations such as disturbances and escapes.
