Attach: Diplomas & Transcripts Description of Job Duties The primary purpose of this position is to administer and supervise the delivery of mandated Foster Care services.
The employee is responsible for supervising six (6) Foster Care Social Workers that provide an array of services to children that are in Wayne County’s legal custody, and to provide services to the parents as they work toward reunification.
This supervisor ensures that workers continually assess placements, take a leading role in making crucial decisions concerning child placement and safety issues, review the progress that families have made throughout the Court process, and make essential recommendations to the Court that will impact the child’s future.
It is the responsibility of this employee to regularly staff and review all foster care cases, ensuring that reasonable efforts are continually being made to achieve the Court sanctioned permanent plan, to make certain that the agency continues to seek appropriate placement alternatives when children enter foster care, and to ensure that children exit foster care into a safe, stable and nurturing environment at the conclusion of the case.
The employee sets unit goals, implements policy, provides training and conducts staff meetings.
The employee must also possess a clear understanding of IV-E coding, and closely monitor staff use of this code to avoid County paybacks of federal funds.
This employee will work closely with the adoption supervisor to insure cases are reviewed and transferred timely if the permanent plan is adoption.
Supervisor monitors employees’ hours worked and approves leave.
This position is directly supervised by the Social Work Program Manager.
This employee will learn and use programs Compass Pilot and Compass Appointments (Compass Co-Pilot, if issued a DSS iPad) as required by position to do, but not limited to: request leave, schedule/receive appropriate appointments, set up virtual files, scan/retrieve documents, receive/send tasks.
Experience using Microsoft Office 2000 (Word, Excel, etc.
) required.
Educational/Experience Requirements: Master’s degree in social work from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of directly related experience; or Bachelor’s degree in social work from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of directly related experience; or Master’s degree in a human services field from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of directly related experience; or Bachelor’s degree in a human services field from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of directly related experience; or Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution and five years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

) Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: Considerable knowledge of: methods and principles of casework supervision and training; laws, regulations, and policies, which govern the program; governmental and private organizations and resources in the community; social work principles, techniques, and practices and their application to specific casework and community problems; behavioral and socio-economic problems and their treatment; racial, ethnic, and other cultural groups in society, their values and life styles and the resultant issues in contemporary life; and advocacy theory and techniques.
Ability to: supervise, train, or orient lower-level social workers, students, interns or casework aides in the program; establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrative, associates, individuals served by the program, and with social, medical, legal, civic, and religious organizations; interpret or communicate social needs to funding sources, the public, or legislators; express ideas clearly and concisely and to plan and execute work effectively; read and interpret manual material, policies, and program information; and accurately record data.
Must possess a valid NC Driver's license and have access to a personal automobile and carry the minimum amount of insurance as required by Wayne County Policy.
