The University of Mount Olive is currently seeking applicants for the role of Student Accessibility Director.
This position is tasked with championing accessibility and equal academic opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in both seated and online classes.
As a key member of the Learning Commons team, the individual in this role will play a crucial role in supporting student success and increasing retention and graduation rates.
The ideal candidate should possess excellent organizational and technical skills, effective communication abilities, and the capacity to multitask and prioritize initiatives focused on student accessibility and retention.
Providing keen attention to detail and addressing time-sensitive requests are common due to the nature of managing accommodations.
To foster an atmosphere where all students can thrive, the successful candidate must display the ability to collaborate closely with students, faculty, and staff to create an academically inclusive and supportive environment.
A prominent presence within the campus community will be vital for the success of accessibility and student success initiatives.
This campus-based position is 12 months with a schedule of 8:00 am-5:00 pm on Monday through Thursday and 8:00 am-4:00 pm on Friday, with evening and weekend work as required.
*Responsibilities include:* * Creating and maintaining a list of common accommodations for common diagnoses that are comprehensive to effectively meet students' needs and cost-effective * Collecting and reviewing disability assessment documentation for students with specific disabilities and providing recommendations for academic accommodations in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), federal or state regulations, and college procedures * Conducting student intake meetings, check-ins, and outreach to students of concern; assisting students with understanding the accommodation process and building self-advocacy skills * Coordinating accommodations for temporary disabilities including working with faculty, Residence Life, and other campus partners * Working with Athletics to support student-athletes who have experienced injuries and other medical events (e.
g.
, concussions and surgical procedures).
* Maintaining accurate documentation of student records, particularly those of students registered with the Office of Student Accessibility * Handling, tracking, and storing sensitive and confidential materials according to established guidelines of Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), state law, and college policies and procedures * Overseeing accessibility services testing process from scheduling through actual proctoring of tests * Managing the accessibility proctoring room and reporting all incidents of academic integrity violations to student’s professors * Designing, conducting, and evaluating faculty/staff training in varied formats which increases the academic and personal support to students with disabilities * Designing, conducting, and evaluating workshops provided to students geared toward overall student success as well as disabilities-specific content * Developing and conducting regular campus-wide education, curriculum, recommendation of departmental policies, and in-service training to support disability inclusion, community awareness, and retention of students with disabilities * Recruiting, interviewing, hiring, training, and supervising individuals who serve as interpreters, note-takers, scribes, etc.
* Managing the Office of Student Accessibility budget * Serving as web content editor for the Student Accessibility MyUMO website and Accessibility Moodle shell keeping content current and accurate for stakeholders * Updating forms, manuals, etc.
utilized by the office for accuracy, process improvement, and web accessibility * Demonstrating assessment and continuous improvement efforts through the development and submission of an annual assessment plan and report for the Office of Student Accessibility in accordance with the Institutional Effectiveness Policy * Participating in university committees, task forces, and initiatives such as student retention *Minimum Qualifications:* Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (Master’s preferred) with two years of experience working with accessibility-related accommodations within accessibility services, instruction, other student services, vocational rehabilitation, or counseling position.
