Examples of Duties
Leads, plans, trains, and evaluates the work of custodians at assigned branches
Writes and prepares personnel items, i.
e.
, performance appraisals, supervisor incident reports and disciplinary actions
Responsible for recruitment of assigned custodial positions
Identifies workplace hazards and/or unsafe conditions and takes appropriate actions to correct them
Trains employees in custodial methods, techniques, and in the set up and use of equipment
Receives, investigates, responds, and resolves complaints regarding custodial services
Develops, updates, and evaluates work and/or safety standards, policies, and procedures by inspecting the quality of custodial services in all library locations
Provides assistance in setting up and dismantling flooring, chairs, track walls, barricades, staging tables, and other special equipment as required
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from high school and one year of custodian work experience in an office or commercial environment, preferably to include some lead or supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Driving is an essential function of this position.
To be considered, you must have a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
If your driver’s license is from another state, you will be required to obtain and show proof of a valid NC driver’s license within 60 days of hire.
Negative drug screen and background check are required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of existing safety laws, rules, methods, and procedures including applicable OSHA, EPA, Fire and ADA regulations to ensure the safety of staff, the public, and building occupancy
Knowledge of janitorial methods and procedures, materials, chemicals, disinfectants, and equipment used in cleaning large public buildings
Knowledge of computers, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel
Ability to supervise, direct, plan, assign, train, inspect and evaluate the work of subordinate personnel engaged in custodial duties
Ability to deliver strong customer service when interacting with the public, vendors, external agencies, contractors, and staff in a professional manner
Ability to use the tools and equipment used in custodial and building maintenance
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively as well as understand and correctly follow instructions
Ability to compose and write reports or correspondence in a clear, concise, and effective manner.
Ability to become familiar with burglar and fire alarm system.
Ability to create staff schedules and manage employee timesheets and leave requests
Ability to operate library vehicles in compliance with the County’s Safe Driving Practices Policy
Ability to treat people with respect, work with integrity and uphold organizational values
