SRI is seeking an experienced Child Advocate Instructor.
A favorable Child Care National Agency Check and Inquiries (CNACI) background check is required.
This is a full-time position located at Fort Liberty, NC.
Overview: Child Advocacy Program (CAP) Child Advocate Instructors will educate and train Soldiers and Family Members on family life issues critical to sustaining a healthy lifestyle free of violence and abuse.
Provide timely, effective, and intensive early prevention services to at-risk couples and parents at Fort Liberty, NC.
Provide comprehensive services to Soldiers and Family members in the form of training, advocacy, education, and information and referral to assist with increasing couples, parental and family coping skills, and to prevent behaviors that could lead to family violence.
Will an empirically tested curriculum for delivering services to promote child, couples, and family functioning to parents in order to reduce the number of child abuse cases.
Tasks & Responsibilities: · Serves as a Child Advocate Instructor in support of the ACS and Family Advocacy Program at Fort Liberty, NC.
· Prepares for and presents Life Skill classes and child safety puppet shows to the Fort Liberty community.
· Presents training sessions and classes on the prevention of Child Sexual Exploitation/Abuse.
· Conducts a Question & Answer session after each presentation, distributes and collects customer satisfaction surveys.
· Responsible for ensuring each classroom is ready for instruction to include appropriate materials are available, audio-visual aides are in place, seating, lighting, etc.
After each session, return the classroom to a clean and presentable state.
· Works with Administrative Support Specialists to confirm attendance of registered participants by phone or email 1-2 days prior to the course/class start date.
Assists in preparing/ assembling participant resource packets, if needed · Uses a variety of interactive mediums to engage students (music, video, interactive theater, exercises, etc.
).
· Tailors presentations and materials that is best suitable to varying audiences (parents, children, and different organizations).
Reviews course curriculum - coordinates and recommends improvements, changes, and updates.
· Performs outreach sessions, events and activities designed to raise awareness in the community.
· Conducts daily and monthly checks with various medical facilities other organizations/facilities to provide information and referrals about programs and services offered.
· Works with Family Readiness Groups and volunteers educating them about Family Advocacy information and referrals.
· Maintains contact with individual customers designated as being a potential risk for abuse by email or phone.
Sends information to these customers reminding them of services and events available to them.
· Inspects all child and youth facilities at Fort Liberty and provides results to the Government.
· Attends the Installation Child Youth & School Services Evaluation (ICYSE) kickoffs and attends out briefings.
· Schedules and conducts child abuse risk assessments at Fort Liberty, attends, out briefings, presents results of assessment.
· Identifies and responds appropriately to low-risk advocacy cases, refers high risk cases to the appropriate authority.
· Complies with, participates, and assists in the Family Advocacy Program DA Accreditation standards.
· Provides input to the Marketing Specialist for informational displays and materials.
· Works with the PM and Marketing Specialist to write child abuse prevention newspaper and newsletter articles.
Research and compiles information for input to ACS and local newsletters, town hall meetings, etc.
Minimum Required Skills, Education, Experience & Abilities: · Bachelor’s degree in Social Work; Psychology; Marriage, Family, and Child Counseling; Counseling or Behavioral Science; Education; Community Health or Public Health · Minimum of two years of demonstrable experience in family and children’s services or community organization.
· Minimum 2-years’ experience delivering and developing training courses.
· Minimum 1-year experience working with a military Family Support Center, or civilian social service agency serving military Families.
· Knowledge in topics relating to child advocacy such as: family violence, child neglect/abuse, child safety, foster care, and the various support programs and resources that are available to military family members.
· Ability to identify and determine low and high-risk advocacy cases and understand the appropriate actions to take with each type of case.
· Unrestricted motor vehicle license.
· Proficient personal computer skills.
· Strong interpersonal skills, organizational skills, and customer service skills.
· Proficient using MS Office Suite products to include, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
· Strong written and oral communication skills.
· Instructors teaching ScreamFree Parenting and Darkness to Light curriculum must have completed the train-the-trainer course.
· Ability to maneuver and/or lift boxes and training materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
